Volt Surge – Sneak Peek & Latest Update
We’re excited to share a first look at what we’ve been building with Volt Surge — a sci-fi roguelite survivor where you fight endless waves of enemies, collect experience, and build a devastating arsenal run by run.
What is Volt Surge?
Volt Surge is a top-down sci-fi survivor in the vein of Vampire Survivors and Survivors.io. You control a lone operative dropped into hostile territory, surrounded by waves of enemies that grow stronger over time. Your only goal: survive as long as possible and become as powerful as possible before the inevitable.
The game blends fast-paced automatic combat with deep upgrade decisions. Every run feels different depending on which weapons you unlock and which global modifiers you stack.
What’s new
The biggest addition in this update is the global weapon modifier system. Previously upgrades were tied to individual weapons. Now three new upgrade options can drop during any level-up screen and affect every single weapon you’re carrying at once.
Damage Up increases the damage output of all your weapons by a flat percentage per level, up to five levels. Whether you’re running a Rifle, a Frost Gun, a Railgun, or a Grenade Launcher — everything hits harder.
Fire Rate Up works the same way but for attack speed. All weapons fire faster, which on a fully upgraded Rifle starts to feel absolutely unhinged.
Multi Shot adds an extra projectile to every weapon that fires projectiles. Your Rifle fans out an extra bullet per level, your Frost Gun sprays wider, your Railgun punches through with additional beams. The spread is calculated dynamically so weapons never overlap shots — the fan widens naturally as you stack more levels.
The weapon roster
Volt Surge currently has five weapons, each with its own feel and upgrade path:
The Rifle is your starting weapon. High fire rate, multi-shot focused, great for clearing clusters of enemies.
The Grenade Launcher is an unlockable area weapon. It fires explosive projectiles in a spread and scales its projectile count with Multi Shot upgrades.
The Frost Gun slows enemies on hit and fires in a wide arc. Excellent for controlling chokepoints.
The Aura is a passive damage field around the player. It pulses damage to everything inside its radius and scales its pulse frequency with Fire Rate upgrades.
The Railgun is a precision powerhouse. Long range, high damage, low fire rate. With Multi Shot it fires additional beams in a tight spread, turning it into a deadly cone at close range.
How runs feel
You start with just the Rifle. Every time you level up — which happens frequently thanks to XP dropped by enemies — you’re presented with three random upgrade cards. These can be weapon unlocks, weapon level upgrades, or the new global modifiers. You have three weapon slots and three modifier slots, so every run forces real decisions about what to prioritize.
As you stack global modifiers on top of weapon-specific upgrades the power curve gets steep fast. A level five Rifle with max Fire Rate and three levels of Multi Shot is eight projectiles firing twice a second. It gets loud.
Sneak peek
This is an early look. More weapons, enemy types, and systems are in the works. We’ll be sharing more as development continues.
Stay tuned — Volt Surge is just getting started.
